❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What is The Learning Acres?

The Learning Acres (TLA) is a nature-based enrichment and academic support program that serves children in grades K–12. We offer flexible scheduling, individualized learning, therapeutic services, and a calm farm environment that supports children of all abilities.

2. Is this a school or a homeschool program?

TLA is not a licensed private school. We operate as a homeschool enrichment and academic support program, meaning families retain homeschooling status but receive structured learning and therapeutic support on-site. The program offerings are open to public/private schoolers as well.

3. What curriculum do you use?

We use MiaAcademy (K–8) and MiaPrep (8–12) as our core academic platforms. These are standards-aligned online programs supported by our in-person staff. For students with special learning needs, we partner with Casey’s Special Education Services to provide customized instruction in Math and ELA.

4. What ages do you serve?

We support students from Kindergarten through 12th grade, with adaptive, multi-age learning groups based on ability and developmental readiness rather than traditional grade levels.

5. Do you accept neurodiverse learners or students with IEPs?

Yes! We are proudly inclusive and work closely with families of neurodiverse children. Our program offers individualized accommodations, 1:1 academic support, and access to on-site therapeutic services (ABA, OT, Speech, PT, and Psychiatry).

6. How are the classes structured?

We divide learning into Core (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies) and Enrichment (Creative Arts, Life Skills, STEAM, SEL, Movement & Fitness). Students follow a daily schedule in small, mixed-age groups.

7. What are the enrollment options?

We offer flexible options:

  • Weekly Explorer Pass ($350/week)

  • Monthly Member Plan ($850/month)

  • Mix & Match Classes (Core: $40/class, Enrichment: $35/class)

8. Do you provide lunch or snacks?

Families must send lunch and snacks from home. We have designated times for snack, outdoor play, and lunch breaks, and can refrigerate/store food items as needed.

9. Where are you located?

We are located at a private farm-based campus in Leesburg, VA, offering both indoor and outdoor classroom spaces, gardens, and nature trails.

10. What is the admissions process?

  1. Submit an interest form and select your enrollment option

  2. Schedule an in-person interview with our Program Director

  3. Complete registration forms and submit tuition

  4. Receive your welcome packet and Parent Handbook

11. Do you provide homeschooling evaluations or progress reports?

Yes. We offer year-end homeschool evaluations and portfolio reviews in partnership with Malia Phelps-Waller, a licensed educator and homeschool evaluation specialist. These evaluations meet Virginia’s legal requirements for homeschool progress documentation. Families may also request custom progress reports and written feedback throughout the year for IEPs, learning portfolios, or district submissions.
